Hearse Life

Bio

Peter Luke Rodkey

Creator of Hearse Life

After years of so-called investors, in 2001, with Vladimir Michel, I launched Hearse Life. As Mr. Michel interviewed hearse owners at a ‘Professional Car Society’ meet in Anaheim, Ca., I ventured to the Midwest and filmed the four major coach builders’ basic histories: ‘Superior’, ‘S & S’, Miller & Meteor’ , and ‘Eureka’. In Los Angeles, Ca., documenting hearse dealers, owners and club members, culminating in impromptu reactions to my 1972 S&S then periodically spending many months in post production, filming ended in May, 2005. In 2006, a screening at the ‘New Beverly Cinema’ was exciting yet far from satisfactory. After years of doubtful determination, in 2017, Hearse Life was ‘finalized’ but an unscrupulous distributor yanked it weeks later, only to be followed, in 2019-2023, by an unprincipled ‘consulting producer’ dangling a big outright sale. Yet despite personal/business stagnancy (etc.!) Hearse Life underwent closed captions, a tighter trailer and a revamped poster. However, when exploring distribution platforms I encountered stringent requirements and/or was declined with no explanation. Also, certain participants in the feature went the wayside – no inquiries, some never even watching a mailed DVD. Later, I emailed the world’s largest streaming services suggesting a favor to many people, weary of over-budgeted, over-hyped, overrated remakes/sequels/prequels: offer a ‘guerilla/micro-budget’ film category. Starting with mine, of course, No reply… All that aside, if even one person is inspired after watching Hearse Life to make a film they really love, then it will all be worth it.

It’s all up to you to be uniquely YOU!
